Canto XCI

I could talk of bad teachers or nurses,
sure, I could relay a fair few stories,
but I’ll be stumped for yarns or pretty verses

when asked to name a single decent Tory.

Check out my facebook page, I’ve been beaten up my the insane criminal in the flat above mine. I’m not as good looking as usual.

As for this poem…it’s not as inspired as usual and it’s a generalisation.

Sorry to hear about your trouble Peter. As for the poem, the early drafts were even more general, romanticising and beatifying public service workers. This poem acknowledges that not all public servants are doing a great job. As for the generalisation, nah, I don’t think it is. No one joins the Tory party out of civic duty or empathy towards the workers and the poor. That’s why I can say quite sincerely that I cannot name a single decent Tory.
