Canto XCVII

The movie scene that always screwed me up,
during my childhood, was when the android
would have its face removed so we could cop

a look at the mechanical, hard wired
true nature of its manners and foibles,
a multitude of shifting gears, a void

where you’d expect to find its robot soul,
perhaps because the automaton’s eye
stares back at us, unblinking, fearless, cold,

to delve into our viscera for all
the inner visions that cause us to weep,
to seek the sticky ether of the soul,

to ponder if we dream of meaty sheep?

I was doing so well pondering the possibilities of android souls and then you hit me with that brilliant final couplet.

“to ponder if we dream of meaty sheep?”

Now, all I can picture is roast lamb, roast potatoes, veg and rich gravy…I dream of meaty sheep.
