Canto CCXXIX

A poem is not a spade digging a hole,
it is the notion that the sky’s a shell
and one well placed punch or kick is all

you need to split it, if it is your goal
to split such things apart—perhaps you are
the kind of poet that seeks to retell

the platitudes your patron seeks to hear?

Poetry…I don’t want to hear stuff I already think and know.
I want to be challenged with new ideas, to see things in new ways.
